EDM#62 Using an unfamilar medium

What is it about mugs that they are so hard to draw? They *should* be easy. Anyway, I drew this using oil pastel, simply because I hardly ever use that medium. I realised that if you press quite hard, you can get a wonderful colour intensity. Otherwise it is like using wax crayon!

Mugs are hard to draw because the shape of the elipse of the top and bottom change, depending on your view point. You need to keep the elipse of the rim and the bottom as close to the same shape as you can. The top is only a circle if you are looking straight down into it from above.

Keep practicing, because you are doing really well.
